CASE STUDY: GALLOWAY FARM

FROM ICE RINK TO
LOCK-TIGHT GRIP

How we used Trakrite technology to winter-proof a slippery collecting yard, instantly restoring herd confidence and preventing injuries.

THE IMPACT

The difference in cow behavior was visible the moment they returned to the shed.

100%

Confidence Restored

Head-down, hesitant walking stopped immediately. Cows now move freely.

Shattered Concrete

Our diamond-blade technology cuts clean. No rubble, no uneven surfaces.

Heat Detection

Secure footing leads to stronger bulling signs and better fertility rates.

THE CHALLENGE

POLISHED CONCRETE IS A
CULLING RISK

Years of scraping had turned this Galloway Dairy Farm holding shed into a skating rink. The farm manager noticed the "cow anxiety"—animals walking with their heads down, terrified of doing the splits. With winter icing approaching, they needed a solution that wasn't just a quick fix.

"The best insurance we bought."

"Before R.C Adamson came in, we were holding our breath every time a cow turned a corner. Now, the girls march in confidently. It's not rough, it's just grippy."

  • Clean Cuts: We use diamond blades, not flailing hammers.
  • Square Groove: Creates a vertical ledge for the hoof to lock onto.

The Trakrite Advantage: Precision Cutting

WHY TRAKRITE TECHNOLOGY?

We don't smash your floor. We engineer it.

Vertical Edge vs. V-Shape

Older machines create a "V" shape that hooves slip out of. Our Trakrite machine cuts a perfect square groove. This provides a 90-degree ledge that locks the hoof in place, even with slurry or frost.

Hoof Health & Drainage

Because we don't shatter the surface, the floor remains smooth between grooves, ensuring cow comfort. The precise channels allow slurry to drain away efficiently, keeping feet drier and healthier.

BEFORE & AFTER

THE TRANSFORMATION

Before: Anxiety

Cows walked with heads down, hesitant to move, causing bottlenecks at the parlor.

After: Confidence

Head-up walking. Cows move freely and quickly, reducing milking times.

Before: Slips

High risk of "the splits" injuries, leading to emergency culls and vet bills.

After: Traction

Square grooves provide 365-day grip, even in freezing winter conditions.

GROOVING FAQ

Very little. Our Trakrite machine is self-propelled and efficient. We can work between milkings or section off areas to keep the herd moving while we work.
No. Unlike flailing or scabbling which creates huge dust clouds, our diamond-blade wet cutting system keeps dust to an absolute minimum, making it safe for livestock nearby.
Deep grooving is a long-term solution. Because we cut into the aggregate rather than just scratching the surface, the grip typically lasts for 7-10 years depending on scraping frequency.
Scabbling smashes the concrete, leaving a rough, uneven surface that can bruise soles and cause stone penetration. Trakrite saws clean channels, leaving the standing surface smooth and comfortable for the cow.

READY TO GET IT SORTED?

Slippery yards and overgrown hooves don't fix themselves. They cost you money—in lame cows, vet bills, reduced yields, and culls you shouldn't have to make.
